1. Water at the right time
Early in the morning or right at dawn. At midday the water evaporates before reaching the roots, and at night the lawn stays wet for hours and fungus appears.
2. Raise the mowing height
In summer, leave the lawn longer. The blades shade the soil, hold moisture and keep weeds down. Mow often, but never more than a third of the blade.
3. Don't fertilise in strong heat
Fertiliser in July and August can scorch the lawn. Save fertilising for spring and autumn.
4. Watch the walkways
If people always walk in the same place, the lawn compacts and dries out. Put down a few stepping stones or change the route.
Automatic irrigation helps a lot
A programmed irrigation system waters at the right time even when you're away, and with a rain sensor it doesn't waste water.
